Requiem by Giuseppe Verdi - Now available

This version requires 1 flute, 1 oboe, 2 clarinets, 2 bassoons, 2 horns, 4 trumpets, 1 trombone, 1 bass trombone, tuba, timpani, percussion and normal strings (twelve fewer wind players than Verdi's original).

The scoring has been done with a light touch so the solo parts in the wind section remain on the original instruments.

The advantages of using this version are

• The usual problem of the orchestra being too loud for the choir is resolved.
• The reduced orchestra will fit more easily into smaller venues.
• Twelve fewer wind players need to be hired easing the pressure on society budgets.

The disadvantages using this version include

• A less full sound, especially in the choruses and more dramatic moments.
• Not authentic.
• While fewer musicians are needed, they do need to be experienced players as the orchestration is more like chamber music with every note counting.

I charge £150 plus £20 packing and postage to hire the score and a set of orchestral parts for six weeks. The score is then yours to keep but if you return it with the orchestral parts with no more than very light pencil markings I will be pleased to refund £50 (reducing the hire cost to £100 plus delivery). Extra parts can be hired for £5 per copy.

The Conductor's score is printed on larger B4 paper (14.3 inches high by 10.1 inches wide) The orchestral parts are printed on A4 paper with page turns set to make performing as easy as possible.
